Sun Valley visitors are no strangers to full days in the outdoors — hiking the Sawtooths, mountain biking around Ketchum, fly fishing Idaho’s famous rivers. But if you want to add a truly unforgettable overnight river experience to your Sun Valley trip, Payette River Company has something no other outfitter near Sun Valley can offer.
We are the only outfitter on the entire South Fork Payette River system offering overnight rafting trips. Just 2 hours from Sun Valley, you can spend a full day on the river — Class III/IV whitewater or family-friendly hot springs rafting — and wake up the next morning at our private riverside camp deep in the Boise National Forest.
Whether you are coming from Sun Valley, Ketchum, Boise, McCall, or anywhere across Idaho — this is the overnight rafting trip you have been looking for.
Payette River Company runs overnight rafting trips on two exceptional sections of the South Fork Payette River. Both include a natural hot springs stop and a night at Camp Woopie, our private riverside camp.
The Canyon section is the most thrilling overnight rafting near Sun Valley Idaho has to offer. Twenty-five Class III/IV rapids, a stop at Pine Flats Hot Springs, a portage around the spectacular Big Falls waterfall, and a riverside lunch — followed by a night at Camp Woopie. The Canyon section is reservoir fed, meaning consistent water levels and great rafting all season long regardless of snowpack.
For the Canyon overnight you have two arrival options — arrive at 5:00pm the evening before your river day and wake up fresh for the Canyon, or raft the Canyon first at 9:45am, follow us to camp in the evening, enjoy dinner and a night at Camp Woopie, and head home after breakfast the next morning.
Minimum age 12. $270 adults / $245 kids 15 & under.
The Kirkham section is the perfect overnight rafting near Sun Valley option for families with kids under 12, guests with physical limitations, and anyone looking for a fun and scenic river experience without the demands of Class III/IV whitewater. Class II/III rapids, a soak at the famous Kirkham Hot Springs, a jump rock, and a crystal-clear swim hole — followed by a night at Camp Woopie.
For the Kirkham overnight the same two arrival options apply. Depending on your arrival option, water levels, and group experience, you may float directly into camp after your river day — or follow us down to camp from HQ just in time for appetizers. Either way, Camp Woopie is waiting for you.
Minimum age 5. $270 adults / $245 kids 15 & under.
After your day on the river, your guides will lead you to Camp Woopie — our private riverside camp on land leased from the U.S. Forest Service, tucked between tall pines and granite canyon walls on the South Fork Payette. It is the only overnight rafting camp on the entire Payette River system, and guests consistently describe their first sight of it as one of the most memorable moments of the trip.
Dinner is a real farm-to-table riverside sit-down meal — burgers from Ginger’s family farm, organic seasonal vegetables from the PRC garden, and the legendary Camp Woopie dutch oven brownies by the fire. Breakfast is served at 9:00am before you head home.
