Overnight Rafting Trips In Idaho — Closer and More Affordable Than You Think

When most people think of overnight rafting trips in Idaho they picture multi-day expeditions on the Salmon or Snake Rivers — remote trips requiring flights, long drives, a week off work, and a significant investment. Payette River Company offers something different. Our overnight trips on South Fork Payette are designed for real life — a weekend getaway, a summer celebration, or a family adventure that fits into a busy schedule.

Overnight raftingtrips in Idaho, on the South Fork Payette starts at $270 per person — a fraction of the cost of multi-day wilderness expeditions elsewhere in Idaho. And unlike those trips, you don’t need a week off work to do it. Our shortest overnight package is a single night — raft one day, sleep at camp, head home the next morning.

Boise is just 1.5 hours away. Sun Valley and Ketchum are 2 hours. Stanley is less than an hour. No flights, no week-long commitment, no complicated logistics. Just a scenic drive through the Boise National Forest and you are waking up at Camp Woopie on the South Fork Payette River — the most accessible overnight rafting Idaho has to offer.

For visitors coming from Boise and the Treasure Valley or from Sun Valley and Ketchum, an overnight trip on the South Fork Payette is one of the best outdoor experiences Idaho has to offer — and it starts with a drive you will not forget.

Welcome to Camp Woopie

Camp Woopie sits on land leased from the U.S. Forest Service, on a private sandy beach right at the edge of the South Fork Payette River, tucked between tall pines and dramatic granite canyon walls deep in the Boise National Forest. There are no roads, no outside crowds — just Payette River Company guests, your guides, and one of the most beautiful stretches of river in Idaho.

Sean Glaccum built Camp Woopie by hand 30 years ago when he worked for the previous owner of this operation. The camp is named after a kayak trick — and that spirit of adventure and authenticity is still felt in every corner of it. Today Sean and Ginger own and operate Payette River Company, and Camp Woopie remains the heart of everything they do.

Think river glamping at its best — all the beauty and adventure of a wilderness camp with the comfort of real food, and a team of guides who take care of everything. Guests consistently describe their first sight of camp as one of the most memorable moments of the trip. The photos don’t quite do it justice — you have to see it for yourself.

A Night at Camp Woopie

The Setting

Camp Woopie offers everything you need and nothing you don’t. Lounge chairs, a shaded dining area, bocce ball, horseshoes, and slackline on the beach. The South Fork Payette runs right past camp — and the sound of the river is the last thing you hear before falling asleep in your tent. On evenings when the guide knows how to play, a guitar comes out by the fire. It is that kind of place.

Most evenings Sean is right there with you at camp — the same owner who was on the water with you that day, now cooking your dinner and swapping stories by the fire. That level of personal attention is something you simply will not find at any other overnight rafting operation in Idaho.

The Food

Dinner at Camp Woopie is not camp food. It is a real farm-to-table riverside sit-down meal — beer and non-alcoholic drinks available throughout the evening, appetizers of dips and chips, followed by burgers from Ginger’s family farm in North Idaho and a salad made with organic seasonal vegetables straight from PRC’s own garden in Lowman. Guests are consistently surprised by how good the meat is — because there is nothing quite like a farm-fresh burger cooked by your guide on the South Fork Payette. PRC’s famous potatoes round out the meal.

Dessert comes hot out of the dutch oven — the Camp Woopie brownies, eaten by the fire while the canyon goes quiet around you.

Breakfast the next morning starts at 8am with hot beverages, fruit and juice, followed by pancakes and sausage or an egg skillet with potatoes at 9am. Hot, filling, and the perfect way to start your morning at Camp Woopie.

All meals are prepared by your guides and can be customized for dietary needs and allergies — just let Ginger know when you book.

The Camping

All camping gear is provided — tents, sleeping pads, and pillows. Sleeping bags are available to rent for $15 upon request — just let Ginger know in advance. You bring your personal items and a sense of adventure. Camp is a short walk down from where your vehicles are parked, approximately 350 feet above camp — so guests need to be reasonably mobile.

Fishing at Camp

The South Fork Payette runs right past Camp Woopie, making it one of the best walk-and-wade fishing spots on the river. Bring your own gear and purchase your Idaho fishing license before arrival — your guides can point you to the best spots along the bank.

How Overnight Rafting on the South Fork Payette Works

All overnight trips meet at PRC headquarters in Lowman where you will gear up, get checked in, and be briefed on the plan. From HQ you will follow PRC down to camp — approximately 5 miles from headquarters. You park your vehicle about 350 feet above camp and walk down. From that point forward a PRC vehicle handles all transportation for the remainder of your trip.

For the 1 Day/1 Night package you have two arrival options:

Arrive at 5:00pm — Meet at HQ, follow us down to camp just in time for appetizers and dinner. Wake up the next morning, have breakfast, and head to the river fresh and ready.

Arrive at 9:45am — Meet at HQ, raft your section first, then follow us down to camp in the evening. Arrive already buzzing from your day on the water, enjoy dinner and a night at Camp Woopie, then head home after breakfast.

For the 2 Day/1 Night package — arrive at 9:45am. You raft the Kirkham section on day one and float directly into camp by river in the afternoon. The next morning you float out of camp onto the South Fork Payette Canyon. The river is your transportation between sections — no shuttling, no vans.

For the 2 Day/2 Night package you also have two arrival options — arrive at 5pm the evening before or raft the Kirkham section first at 9:45am and float into camp. Either way you spend two nights at Camp Woopie with the Canyon section on day two.

For the 3 Day/2 Night package — arrive at 9:45am. Day one on the Kirkham section, float into camp. Day two on the Canyon section — at the end of the day we shuttle you back to camp for your second night. Day three back on the Canyon section, back to your vehicles by approximately 3pm.
